Product designer and developer since 2005

Part product designer and part developer, I have been creating for the web and mobile for 17 years and counting. I am currently a Senior UX designer at eMoney Advisor, and have previously held lead web developer roles at North Sails and Worldways Social Marketing. I maintain a healthy dose of ongoing contract gigs for Actblue and Common Cause, and have completed an extensive amount of one-off freelance projects for clients near and far throughout my career.

History

I loved everything tech from a very early age, and by age 12 I found myself learning code in order to build an alternative portal for my entire Little League. As a teenager I continued developing my creative skills through frontend design and backend development. At 16 I launched Devlounge.net, a developer-focused resource which contained original content in the form of tutorials, design and development industry news, and interviews with other creatives. The site enjoyed a high-level of success — at its peak cracking the top 50k of sites globally according to Alexa. The success of Devlounge even earned me an AdWeek interview titled The 16 year-old Who Puts Us All to Shame.

A snapshot of Develounge.net in 2007, where I authored over 300 original articles, interviews others across the creative industry, and released numerous free and paid WordPress themes.

As college approached I made the decision to sell Devlounge to a publishing company, and shifted my focus to building premium WordPress themes. Soon after I released Market Theme, a highly customizable eCommerce theme geared towards creatives. In 6 months over 300+ paid licenses had been purchased, bringing in a sizeable amount of revenue.

I went on to attend the University of Rhode Island for business administration, where I worked part time as a junior developer. Coincidentally URI was in the process of implementing WordPress as their CMS of choice, and ultimately gave me relative free-reign to design and build a brand new theme to be used campus-wide. The university went on to name me a “Big Thinker” in 2012 thanks to my contributions I had made during my time as a student.

I began my professional career following college at Worldways Social Marketing, a Newport, RI based marketing agency focused on working with social good organizations. Much of our work was for non-profits, health orgs, and local government entities. As lead developer I was responsible for building an extensive number of WordPress based sites of varying complexity, including provider directories for Institute for Family Health in NYC and Broward County Health in South Florida. I was also heavily involved in strategy, participating in client discovery meetings and checkpoints. Following work at Worldways, I moved to North Sails where I managed the development of Northsails.com and built an eCommerce portal for One Design sails, with global pricing regions and a multiple of product variations.

In 2018 I made the decision to focus primarily on my other passion of design, something I had been doing all along as part of both personal and professional projects throughout my entire career. In May 2018 I joined eMoney Advisor where I currently sit as a Senior UX Designer today.
